Elezia Miller shares their thoughts on being a young queer person in America today.
"My full name is Elezia Cynfani-Ann Miller. I’m 23 years old, I’m a Taurus. I am a gender fluid masc lesbian, very proud. I’m multiracial, very political, very passionate.
Being queer is like breathing, for me. It’s second nature, actually it’s first nature! It runs through my veins and it’s a part of every single breath I take. It’s so deeply embedded in the person that I am, and it always has been. But it’s getting scarier and scarier, especially being a masculine presenting person in this world and being on the trans spectrum. Sometimes I have my days of being afraid to walk out of the house and being afraid to go to certain towns or to certain countries. But I need (my queerness). I’m not me without it."
"
So much of politics nowadays is centered around people’s identities. Unfortunately we don’t live in a world where human beings can just be human beings, no questions asked, which is how I believe it was meant to be. But my personal identity means a lot to me just because I’m deeply proud of so many things that are attached to it, like my queerness, being multiracial, being genderfluid, being on the trans spectrum. They’re deeply political and they’re deeply powerful."
